Messerschmitt on the streets of Havana

I originally thought these photos were from a recent “48 hours” photo project that documented the world over 48 hours recently but apparently these are just an example of what Reuters photographers provide on a daily basis.
This Messerschmitt KR200 is on the streets of Havana Cuba. Click the photo for a larger one to see the hard life this thing has had and how it still keeps going.
I wonder what is powering it now? I’m sure the original SACHS 200 engine is long gone.

    That sure is a rough looking KR. I wonder if it is from the USA because it has a towel rack rear bumper. It looks as if some other power plant is installed by the size of the rear tire. Scooter maybe? The suit case handle is a nice touch!
