Candee saw nice looking BMW Isetta at Bensenville Motors
It was advertised as "fully restored". She figured that would be the "right" thing to do, buy a car from a Car Dealer.
She bought it. She never got to drive it, it was in the showroom and had no battery or it had no gas or something...
They dropped it off while she was not home.
She tried to drive it and then discovered the parking brake did not work, then it would not start, so she called AAA and when they came to help, the driver took a flashlight and looked into the gas tank and told her it was full of crud. No wonder it wouldn't start!
So Candee asked the dealership to tell her how to shift the car into Reverse. They said they would "send out the guy who restored it" to help her.
Meanwhile, her daughter got on the Internet to find more information about Isettas. Maybe there was something wrong?
And eventually they found ME, a local Isetta owner in Evanston. I have owned an Isetta for 18 years now and have driven it regularly for the last 7 years. I drove my Isetta to Candee's house to see her "fully restored" Isetta from Bensenville Motors and this is what I found:

The carburetor does not have an Air Cleaner attached The engine is missing the protective cone that covers points and dynastart wiring There is a puddle of Fresh Gasoline on the ground |

Not only does the carburetor not have an Air Filter attached, the canister that HOLDS the Air Filter is missing!
How long has the engine been run without an Air Cleaner? Nice Restoration job! |

The carburetor is also missing the cable that controls the choke!
So this car has no choke now. Nice job! |

If the carburetor float bowl should overflow, it goes into an overflow tube which goes down around the motor and the gasoline drips BELOW the motor. The tube is MISSING here, allowing fresh gas to drip onto the Motor case, which if Hot, could start a Fire!
Nice Job! |

The Fuel Valve Shutoff and Main/Reserve lever should be behind the seat on the Parcel Shelf, so what is this thing in the fuel line? |

Oh look, here is the Fuel Tap under the Gas Tank. It is also leaking gas, but there is no way to shut it off, as the Control Rod (red dotted lines) is missing! |

Here is an empty slot behind the seat. It is supposed to have a Lever that leads to the Fuel Tap to turn it on and off and also access the Main and Reserve portions of the Gas Tank. No Lever Here! Just a Slot. |
That's all, right?
Oh No, there is much more! Go to the Next Page |
